No Experience Needed for Cage Shark Diving!
Are you ready for the most exciting experience of your life? Dive with sharks in our stainless steel cage. Because the cage floats at the surface next to the boat, you do not need to be a qualified diver to take part.
We brief you about the conditions and procedures first so that everyone knows the drill. Once the boat is launched we head out to Aliwal Shoal, where we use sardine oil to attract the sharks to the cage. All equipment will be supplied for the cage dive.
We have two sealed bait drums, one that attracts smaller sharks (like the oceanic blacktip) and another to bring in larger species (like the tiger shark). We spend a minimum of 60 minutes in the cage, during which time we may see as many as 50 sharks in their natural habitat.
Before the dive, we will give a full briefing to help you understand the sharks’ behaviour and how to interact with them safely. To date, Aliwal Shoal Scuba has perfect safety track record.
We are trying to identify and record individual tiger sharks seen during baited dives in the Aliwal Shoal Marine Protected Area, with the aim of creating a comprehensive database of our regular visitors. If you take any photos of tiger sharks during your cage dive, please help us by posting them on our Tiger Shark ID Project page.
Anyone Can Go!
People of all ages and abilities can take part in the cage dive. Kids, as well as retired folks, are most welcome to experience the thrill of diving with Aliwal’s famous sharks. If you are prone to seasickness, however, we highly recommend that you take medication before the dive.
How Safe Is It In The Cage?
The cage has been approved according to worldwide safety standards and is built to withstand a knock from even the largest sharks.
Please be aware that terms and conditions apply to diving and accommodation.
How Much Does It Cost?
The total cost is R999.00 per person. All gear is included and includes the 15 minute boat ride to the Aliwal Shoal. Join us for a once in a lifetime experience with Apex predators in their natural environment!
